From The Annie Lennox Sing Campaign
Klosters Snow Polo are delighted to announce that Sentebale are the chosen charity partner for the tournament in 2012. Sentebale was set up in 2006 in memory of it’s founding patron’s mothers’, HRH Prince Henry of Wales and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho. Klosters Snow Polo is an exciting partner for the charter as polo is a passion of Prince Harry’s. On the 21st of January at the Klosters tournament there will be a special charity polo match and dinner evening with profits generated through ticket sales to be donated to Sentebale. Lesotho is a small landlocked country in South Africa and Sentebale was set up to provide support to the orphans and vulnerable children who are badly affected by the HIV/AIDs epidemic.
Scottish born singer, songwriter, campaigner and activist Annie Lennox will be representing on behalf of the Sentebale charity on January 21st at the Klosters snow Polo tournament charity event. One of the finest and most outstanding musical voices of our time Annie Lennox is celebrated as an innovator, an icon, and a symbol of enduring excellence. Her music career is peerless with over 80 million record sales to date and whilst her tireless charity work is widely praised and she has received numerous prestigious awards and honours. In January 2011 Annie Lennox was presented an OBE (order of The British Empire) by HRH Queen Elizabeth II. This great accolade was given for all her hard work and dedication as a humanitarian. Amongst her other awards for her services to charity include GG magazine’s Charity Women of the Year (2010), Nobel Peace Laureates ‘Woman of Peace’ Award for services to humanity (2009) and she became a UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador (2010).
“It is an honour and privilege to be invited to represent Sentebale on this special occasion, and to have been given the opportunity to hopefully inspire people to take up an interest and become engaged in a life saving issue that I am committed to and passionate about. Many people in the privileged Western world are unaware of how the HIV AIDS pandemic is continuing to destroy the lives of millions of young people in countries like Lesotho, where the HIV prevalence rate is inordinately high. In supporting the Princes’ project you will be investing in making a practical and transformational difference to the lives of thousands of children. What could be more rewarding or worthwhile? Enjoy the game…and dig deep!” Annie Lennox
The annual Klosters Snow Polo is a winter event that is really rather different. A snow polo tournament in which many of the games are played after dark, a thrilling aspect devised specifically by the tournament founders, Alpine Polo Club, who are passionate about making the “sport of kings” more accessible to a wider public. Thanks to its unique snow area setting, spectators can get right up close to the action, literally able to reach out and touch the horses, which makes for an electrifying atmosphere. The pretty Swiss Alpine village of Klosters is historically loved by Royals and skiers alike and is the perfect backdrop for the polo tournament’s chic but understated atmosphere, making for a uniquely British event in Switzerland.
