Pleasure

Pleasure

More Information

Pleasure* was a British synth-pop band active in the late 1980s and early 1990s, signed to Dave Stewart’s Anxious Records. The group was fronted by Gully and Barry McGuire (not to be confused with the American folk singer of the same name), and their music combined electronic textures with soulful vocals and introspective lyrics. Their self-titled debut album Pleasure was released in 1989 and featured tracks such as “Yellowfield,” “Pain,” and “Tuesday’s Child” — songs that blended moody atmospheres with melodic hooks.
The album included contributions from a number of notable artists, including backing vocals from Marcella Detroit, Siobhan Fahey, Jimmy Helms and Jimmy Chambers, and production input from Dave Stewart himself on select tracks. Singles like “Please” were remixed by Paul Oakenfold and Pete Lorimer, giving the band a foothold in the UK’s emerging club scene. Though Pleasure* didn’t break into the mainstream charts, their work was well received within the Anxious Records roster and remains a cult favourite among fans of late ’80s British electronic pop.
Their releases, including multiple 12″ singles and remixes, were distributed across Europe and showcased the label’s commitment to supporting genre-defying acts. Pleasure*’s brief but creative run reflects the experimental spirit of Anxious Records during its most active years.
