The Church Recording Studios Equipment

A Superb Otari MTR-90 II 24 Track 2″ Analogue Tape Recorder in excellent condition, with remote, cables, operation and service manuals, service history, some spares and extras including a pair of Timeline Lynx synchronizer for syncing this machine to protools or another tape machine etc, 2″ editing block, splicing tape, leader tape, 10″ and 12″ tape hubs and a reel of new 2″ tape, ready to go! There is a second machine identical to this one with consecutive serial number that will be offered to the winning bidder at the same price as the first.

These Tape machines are at the Church studios, were they were bought new by the Eurythmics and have been used to make many hit records by all sorts of artists since. They have been regularly maintained by Chris Notton the UK Otari expert, the rollers, record and repro heads were changed four years ago and are in excellent condition, the machines have seen very little use since then and are in excellent overall condition.

The sound quality of tape is fantastic, particularly with drums, recording at a high level on tape can compress the sound in a way that is hard to replicate in this digital age, there is definitely something to be said for recording on multitrack tape to get that sound and then transferring the results to protools/logic etc. for further work.

These are great quality machines, superb transports, fast to use and synchronize, easy to maintain, spot erase, quick, one of the best analogue 2″ multitracks available (Otari or Studer, both have their pros and cons and both went downhill after this period with self-aligning machines etc..) a standard found in recording studios worldwide.

 

Amazing pair of vintage Tannoy SRM15X Studio Monitors from the Eurythmics’ London Church Studios.

In excellent working condition.

Dual concentric Gold 15inch drivers in superb large wood cabinets on wheels.

Built-in Tannoy crossover with controls on the front of the cabinet

Can be run off one amplifier with the internal crossover or the crossover can be bypassed at the rear and the speakers can be run bi-amped, one amp driving the bass driver / woofer section, and the second amp driving the high frequency driver / tweeter, this can all be configured on the back panel.

All the drivers and crossovers are in excellent working condition, these speakers sound fantastic.

A Novation Supernova II – 24 voice rack mounting synthesizer in nearly new condition, minimal use. Clear display, all pots etc 100%, excellent working order, very minor rack ear marks from mounting only. Original manual included.

A Pair of Rane GE 30 Graphic equalizers in excellent working condition.

Excellent build quality and sound, superior equalizers.

30 bands can be switched for +12db/-15db or in cut only mode -20db. Separate low and high pass rotary controls, output level control and bypass switch.

Balanced Input and Output via XLR or connector strip, output mode can be switched between active and transformer coupled.

220 Volt (can be switched internally to 120Volt)

Both units are in excellent overall condition and fully functional.

 

Drawmer DL231 dual channel compressor / expander / gate in good working condition with original manual.

This is from the Eurythmics’ Church studio in London where many stars have been recording and mixing records since the 1980’s including the Eurythmics, Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, Bryan Ferry, Yello, Depeche Mode, Erasure, Dido, Patti Smith, Feeder, David Gray and many many more…

There is a “DnA” engraved on the back from the days the studios were owned by the Eurythmics, Dave Stewart and Annie Lennox, the studio company was called DnA as in Dave and Annie.

The Drawmer DL231 is a balanced version of the Drawmer DL221 with an expander.

The compressor section has threshold down to -24dB, variable ratio from 1:1 to 20:1, attack of 50mS to 5 seconds, release of 50mS to 5 seconds and gain of -20dB to +20dB. A ten element universal meter can be switched to show VU or GR.

The limiter section is selectable by a toggle switch. It has a fixed level of +6dB (+10dBU). A single red light shows limiting action.

The Expander has variable threshold from +10dB to -40dB. Three switched ratio settings of 1:2, 1:5 and 1:20. Three switched attenuation levels of -10dB, -20dB and -40dB. Expander metering is the ‘traffic light’ style as used in the DS201 noise gate.

A set of three EAA square 1000 amplifiers and a crossover from the boxer monitoring system installed at the Eurythmics Church Studios in London.

One amplifier and the crossover are in good working condition, the second amplifier works but overheats and trips out so it needs a service, the third amplifier developed an overheating fault years ago, was dismantled and never repaired, as a substitute amp was used in it’s place.

Fantastic studio quality system.

A splendid pair of rare Quested H210 Large Studio monitors in excellent working condition.

2×10″ Bass Drivers, soft dome mid range and tweeter.

Dimensions are : 79cm wide, 36cm deep. 60 cm height. They can also be mounted sideways

I have also found some new spare replacement drivers – one bass unit complete, three midrange units complete and two midrange domes, all new and unused.

All drivers and cabinets in excellent condition, these speakers sound amazing

Great vintage early digital delay with some unusual features – programmable presets, midi in, cv in, buttons for delay phase, filter, delay x2 (excellent dub pitch change effects..) Switchable operating level +4/-20, excellent sounding, remarkably quiet and noise-free, good display, all in good working order.

Seven Soundcraft SA-150 professional stereo amplifiers needing attention, with seven manuals and schematics. Most have faults on one channel.

There are notes on them saying “LF low on left”, “RH channel distorts” etc. all about one channel fault, one amp doesn’t work at all.

I tried them out, and two of them seemed to work ok,one didn’t work at all and the other four worked on one channel only, although the volume controls are a bit crackly on the working ones, they all need a service, sold as spares/repair.
