Wendy Melvoin, born on January 26, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, is an acclaimed guitarist, singer-songwriter, and composer. She rose to prominence as a member of Prince’s iconic band, The Revolution, where her innovative guitar work became a defining element of the “Minneapolis Sound.” Melvoin’s debut performance with The Revolution was during the legendary Purple Rain era, contributing to hits like “Let’s Go Crazy” and “I Would Die 4 U.” Her artistry helped shape the groundbreaking album and film, cementing her place in music history.
After leaving The Revolution in 1986, Melvoin teamed up with Lisa Coleman to form the duo Wendy & Lisa. Together, they released several critically acclaimed albums, including their self-titled debut and Fruit at the Bottom. Their music blended funk, pop, and rock, showcasing their versatility and creativity. Beyond their recording career, Wendy & Lisa transitioned into composing for film and television, earning an Emmy Award for their work on the series Nurse Jackie. They also scored music for shows like Heroes and Touch.
