Tom Chaplin, born Thomas Oliver Chaplin on March 8, 1979, in Hastings, East Sussex, England, is a British musician and songwriter best known as the lead singer of the alternative rock band Keane. He grew up in Robertsbridge, where his father was the headmaster of Vinehall School, and later attended Tonbridge School alongside future bandmates Tim Rice-Oxley and Richard Hughes.
Chaplin joined Keane in 1997, initially as an acoustic guitarist, before transitioning to lead vocals. The band gained international fame with their debut album Hopes and Fears in 2004, which included hits like “Somewhere Only We Know.” Over the years, Keane released several successful albums, including Under the Iron Sea and Perfect Symmetry.
In addition to his work with Keane, Chaplin has pursued a solo career, releasing albums such as The Wave (2016) and Twelve Tales of Christmas (2017). His music often explores themes of personal struggles and redemption.
