Guitarists Peet Coombes and Dave Stewart where living in London when they met singer Annie Lennox, who had dropped out of a course at the Royal Academy of Music to pursue her ambitions in pop music. Forming a band in 1976, the three of them initially called themselves The Catch.

In 1977, the band released a single named “Borderline/Black Blood” on Logo Records. It was released in the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, and Portugal, but was not a commercial success. Eventually The Catch went on to become The Tourists with additional band members.

A number of unreleased demo tracks on tape exist that were never released.

The Catch was a short-lived British punk rock band formed in 1976 by Dave Stewart and Peet Coombes, who were later joined by Annie Lennox. The band was the precursor to The Tourists, which eventually evolved into the globally successful Eurythmics. The Catch released a single titled “Borderline/Black Blood” in 1977 on Logo Records. Despite their efforts, the single did not achieve commercial success.

The band’s formation marked the beginning of the musical partnership between Stewart and Lennox, who met in a restaurant where Lennox was working at the time. Their collaboration with Coombes laid the foundation for their future projects. The Catch’s music was characterized by its punk rock influences, a stark contrast to the more polished pop sound that Stewart and Lennox would later develop with The Tourists and Eurythmics.

After the dissolution of The Catch, Stewart, Lennox, and Coombes formed The Tourists, adding Eddie Chin on bass and Jim Toomey on drums. The Tourists achieved moderate success in the late 1970s with hits like “I Only Want to Be with You” and “So Good to Be Back Home Again.” However, internal tensions and legal issues led to the band’s breakup in 1980.

Stewart and Lennox then formed Eurythmics, a duo that would go on to achieve international fame with hits like “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and “Here Comes the Rain Again.” The Catch, though brief in its existence, played a crucial role in the early careers of Stewart and Lennox, setting the stage for their future success
