SuperHeavy was a genre-defying supergroup formed in 2009 by Mick Jagger, Dave Stewart, Joss Stone, Damian Marley, and A.R. Rahman. Conceived by Stewart as a fusion of global musical styles, the band blended rock, reggae, soul and Indian classical music. Their debut album SuperHeavy was released in 2011 and featured tracks like “Miracle Worker” and “Satyameva Jayathe,” the latter showcasing Jagger singing in Sanskrit.
The group recorded 29 songs in just 10 days at Jim Henson Studios in Los Angeles, with additional sessions held in France, India and the Caribbean. Despite the star power and critical intrigue, the project was short-lived and did not tour extensively. The album reached No. 13 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 26 in the US. SuperHeavy remains a bold experiment in cross-cultural collaboration, highlighting the versatility of its members and their willingness to push musical boundaries.
