Soft Parade was a British indie rock band active in the early 1990s, signed to Dave Stewart’s Anxious Records. The group was fronted by singer-songwriter Chris Corr and blended jangly guitar pop with introspective lyrics and a touch of psychedelia. Their debut album Pure was released in 1993 and featured tracks like “Empty Head” and “Understanding,” which received airplay on BBC Radio 1 and earned praise from the UK music press for their melodic sensibility and emotional depth.
Though Soft Parade didn’t achieve major commercial success, they were part of the wave of guitar-driven acts that bridged the gap between late ’80s post-punk and the Britpop explosion. Their sound drew comparisons to The Smiths and early Blur, and their live performances were known for their raw energy and tight musicianship. After disbanding in the mid-1990s, members went on to pursue other musical projects, and the band’s recordings remain a cult favourite among fans of the Anxious Records catalogue.
