Platinum Weird was a unique musical project formed by the collaboration of British musician and songwriter Dave Stewart, best known as one half of the iconic duo Eurythmics, and American singer-songwriter Kara DioGuardi. The project emerged in 2004, combining Stewart’s seasoned experience in creating hit records with DioGuardi’s fresh, contemporary pop sensibilities.
Platinum Weird was initially presented with an intriguing backstory—purportedly as a band that had originally existed in the mid-1970s but had remained undiscovered until their “music” resurfaced decades later. This narrative was part of a fictional mythology created to generate interest and mystique around the project. The band even included a pseudo-documentary, purportedly directed by Mick Rock, to support this fictional history.
Despite its mysterious origins, Platinum Weird produced music that resonated with fans of both artists. The project’s sound encapsulated a blend of classic rock influences with modern pop, showcasing DioGuardi’s strong vocals and Stewart’s distinctive guitar work.
