The group began as a collective of young activists who transformed a disused building into a multicultural arts centre—an origin story that reflects their deep commitment to social justice and community engagement. Their self-titled debut album in 1998 introduced a genre-blending sound that captured the spirit of LA’s cultural mosaic, and they soon gained international acclaim.
Their second album, Embrace the Chaos (2001), won a Grammy for Best Latin Rock/Alternative Album, followed by Street Signs (2004), which earned both a Grammy and a Latin Grammy.
