None So Blind was a synth-pop and post-punk band formed in Chesterfield, England, in the late 1970s. The group’s lineup included Dave Grandy (vocals), Rob Williams (keyboards), Andy Williams (guitar), John Geks (guitar), Alan Athey (bass), and Chris O’Connell (drums). Known for their eclectic songwriting and DIY ethos, the band recorded early demos using cassette decks and a borrowed mixing desk at the local YMCA. Their sound evolved from experimental tape-based compositions to sequencer-driven, rhythm-heavy tracks with sharp lyrical hooks.
In 1982, None So Blind won a demo competition judged by Eurythmics, earning a recording session at the band’s London studio. Their track “My Favourite Eyes” was mixed by engineer Adam Williams and approved by Dave Stewart, though Stewart was unable to produce the final version due to Eurythmics’ sudden rise to fame. The single was distributed through Nine Mile and The Cartel, placing the band alongside indie heavyweights like Joy Division and The Smiths. Despite setbacks—including the collapse of The Cartel and lost stock—the band continued to perform and record into the 1990s and 2000s, eventually disbanding in 2015. Their final EPs, I Was Ray Mears and Training at Altitude, are available on Bandcamp and reflect their enduring creativity and wit.
