Mike Campbell (born February 1, 1950) is an acclaimed American guitarist, songwriter, and producer, best known as a founding member of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers. His career has been defined by his exceptional skill, versatility, and collaborations with some of the most influential artists in rock music.
Campbell’s connection to Eurythmics is particularly notable for his contribution as the lead guitarist on the empowering single “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves,” a collaboration between Eurythmics and Aretha Franklin. His dynamic guitar work added a powerful edge to the track, complementing its anthemic and feminist message. This collaboration also featured other members of Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers, including Stan Lynch on drums and Benmont Tench on organ.
Growing up in Panama City, Florida, Campbell discovered his passion for music at a young age, drawing inspiration from artists like Bob Dylan, The Byrds, and The Rolling Stones.
