Three-time Grammy nominee Marius De Vries spent much of 1999 and 2000 in Australia, music-directing and co-producing the soundtrack for MOULIN ROUGE, Baz Luhrmann's all-singing, all-dancing, tragicomic celebration of love, starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. The film depicts Luhrmann's take on the glamorous Montmartre nightclub, popular in Paris in the late 1800s, with the music serving as the film's central device. De Vries' work on the music for MOULIN ROUGEhas already gathered several awards nominations, including a Grammy nomination for Best Compilation Soundtrack Album in 2001. Marius De Vries first worked with Baz Luhrmann as co-composer and co-producer of the original music for the box-office hit WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S ROMEO & JULIET, one of the 20thCentury Fox's biggest successes of 1996, which starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. The album was one of the most successful soundtracks of the 1990s, selling over 5 million units worldwide. De Vries also composed the score for THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER, starring Ashley Judd and Ewan McGregor, and was music supervisor for THE AVENGERS, starring Ralph Fiennes and Uma Thurman. He was the programmer of U2's"Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me," the title song for BATMAN FOREVERand with Tina Turneron her title song for the James Bond film, GOLDENEYE. De Vries has collaborated with some of the hottest performers in the music business including David Bowie,Bjork, Robbie Robertson,Perry Farrell,Annie Lennox,Neil Finn,David Gray,Lisa Stansfield,Mel C,Fiona Apple,PJ Harvey,De La Soul,andMassive Attack.In recent months he has co-produced tracks for Perry Farrell's"Song Yet to be Sung" LP, Kelli Ali's(from the Sneaker Pimps) forthcoming album, and Bjork's"Vespertine" LP, and has also mixed and contributed additional production to David Bowie'ssingles "Survive" and "Seven." In addition, he has contributed several productions and co-writes to newcomer Nicky Love'sdebut album "Honeyvision," for the DreamWorks label. De Vries co-produced 3 tracks on Madonna's"Ray of Light" LP, for which he received a Grammy nomination, and was co-writer and programmer on the preceding album "Bedtime Stories." Among his other accolades are a Grammy nomination for his work on Robbie Robertson's "Contact from the Underworld of Red Boy," as well as a BAFTA and Ivor Novello Award for WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE'S
