Billy Mackenzie, born William MacArthur Mackenzie on March 27, 1957, in Dundee, Scotland, was a Scottish singer and songwriter known for his distinctive high tenor voice. He co-founded the post-punk and new wave band The Associates with Alan Rankine in 1979. The band gained recognition with hits like “Party Fears Two” and “Club Country.” Mackenzie also pursued a solo career, releasing his debut album “Outernational” in 1992. He struggled with his sexuality and gender identity, which influenced his music. Mackenzie tragically took his own life on January 22, 1997
