Bettina Caroline Germaine Rheims, born on December 18, 1952, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, is a renowned French photographer. Her career began in 1978 with a series of photographs featuring striptease artists and acrobats, which led to her first exhibitions. Rheims is known for her provocative and erotic depictions of women, often exploring themes of femininity, gender, and identity. Her notable works include the series “Chambre Close” (1990-1992), “Modern Lovers” (1989-1990), and “I.N.R.I.” (1999), which combines her photographs with the prose of Serge Bramly.
Rheims has photographed numerous celebrities and fashion models for magazines such as Elle, L’Officiel, and Marie Claire, and has worked on ad campaigns for Chanel and Lancôme.
