Luciano Pavarotti was one of the most celebrated operatic tenors of the 20th century, renowned for his powerful voice, charismatic stage presence and ability to bring classical music to mainstream audiences. Born in Modena, Italy in 1935, he made his professional debut in 1961 as Rodolfo in La Bohème. His international breakthrough came in 1972 at the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where his performance in La fille du régiment earned a record 17 curtain calls.
Pavarotti became a household name through televised concerts and crossover collaborations, including the Three Tenors performances with Plácido Domingo and José Carreras.
