The Way It Was Back Then was released as the title track and lead single from Dave Stewart’s 2026 album of the same name. Reflective and deeply personal, the song explores themes of memory, friendship, loss and the passage of time, drawing on experiences from throughout Dave’s life and career. The accompanying music video was filmed on the streets of Soho, London, an area closely associated with Dave’s early musical journey. As he walks through the neighbourhood, the film revisits locations connected to his past, including memories of performing at the Marquee Club and late nights spent at Bar Italia. The video was directed by Kyle Wilkinson of HAUS OF THRILLS and serves as a visual reflection on the people, places and experiences that helped shape Dave’s remarkable career.
