Dave Stewart’s The Way It Was Back Then is a deeply personal collection of songs that reflects on family, memories, friendship and growing up in Sunderland. Across ten concise tracks, Dave blends autobiographical storytelling with warm melodies, exploring moments from his childhood, the people who shaped his life, and the passage of time. Songs such as The House Where I Was Born, Oh Jesse and Black Cat capture vivid snapshots of the past, while tracks like Makes Me Happy (And Sad) balance nostalgia with reflection. Honest, heartfelt and beautifully crafted, the album is one of Dave’s most intimate and autobiographical works to date.
