The BMI London Awards took place on 29 September 2025 at The Dorchester, celebrating the British and European songwriters, composers, and publishers behind the most-performed songs across US radio, streaming, film, and television over the past year. This is a prestigious songwriters’ awards ceremony, honouring the craft and impact of music creators.
One of the night’s biggest highlights was a milestone for Eurythmics. Their classic hit Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) achieved 10 Million Status, meaning it has been played on US radio more than 10 million times. This incredible achievement places the song among the most enduring and influential tracks in music history.
What Are the BMI Awards?
The BMI Awards are presented by Broadcast Music, Inc., one of the world’s leading performing rights organisations. These awards recognise the songwriters and publishers of the most-performed songs in the United States. They also include Million-Air Awards, which celebrate songs that have reached millions of US radio performances. For context, one million plays equals roughly 50,000 hours of continuous airplay.
Other Million-Air Honours
Alongside Eurythmics, several legendary tracks were recognised for their longevity, including:
- The Police – Every Breath You Take
- Elton John – Rocket Man, Candle in the Wind, and I Guess That’s Why They Call It The Blues
- Roxette – It Must Have Been Love
- A-ha – Take On Me (also joining the 10 Million Club)
- Whitesnake – Here I Go Again (also joining the 10 Million Club)
For a song released in 1983 to still dominate airwaves more than 40 years later is a testament to its timeless appeal and the creative genius of Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart. Sweet Dreams continues to inspire new generations of listeners and remains a cornerstone of pop culture.
