In a new Vogue feature by Christian Allaire, Annie Lennox reflects on her extraordinary life and career, celebrating the release of her new book Annie Lennox: Retrospective. The visually rich publication spans seven decades of music, activism, and iconic style, offering fans a deeply personal look at Annie’s journey.

Speaking over Zoom, Annie shares how the idea for the book came after the pandemic gave her time to pause and reflect. “I was always going forward and thinking about the next thing,” she says. “So having that little bit of time to reflect was fantastic.”

The interview explores Annie’s early fashion influences, from rummaging through charity shops in Aberdeen to reworking men’s suits during her Eurythmics days. “I’ve always loved objects from another time,” she explains. “The fabrics, textures, and patterns, especially from the ’30s and ’40s, are so beautiful.”

She also opens up about her signature short hair, describing the moment she embraced it as liberating. “Women used to talk about wanting to have an Annie Lennox haircut,” she laughs. “I was just experimenting and having fun.”

From behind-the-scenes stories of music videos like Sweet Dreams and Here Comes the Rain Again, to performing with legends like David Bowie and Aretha Franklin, Annie’s reflections are both humble and inspiring.

The feature ends with Annie looking ahead, embracing creativity and the joy of everyday moments. “Life has glorious moments that offer themselves to you, but you have to look for them.”
