This morning, music icon Annie Lennox appeared on ITV’s This Morning with Dermot O’Leary and Alison Hammond to discuss her brand-new book, Retrospective, which is out now. The book is a stunning visual journey through Annie’s extraordinary life and career, offering fans a deeply personal look at decades of creativity.

Annie looked effortlessly stylish for the occasion, wearing a vibrant red velvet blazer,  Annies look was classic and confident, perfectly reflecting her timeless sense of individuality.

Why Now? Annie Explains the Inspiration Behind Retrospective

When asked why she chose this moment to create her first book, Annie explained:

“I have decades lived through creativity and making music, and I never made a book. I wanted to, but it was never the time. There is such a lot behind the scenes that people do not actually understand. They see the finished product. I realised there are probably 20,000 or more images out there, and I wanted to bring some of them together.”

She described the book as a time capsule, not just for her own life but for an entire generation:

“We have all been through those decades, the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. It is a connection for everybody in a funny sort of way.”

Pride, Perseverance and Iconic Moments

Annie admitted that creating the book gave her a rare chance to reflect:

“We never had time to be retrospective. So this gave me an opportunity to think back and think, what did we do? What did I do? And I am really proud of it.”

She spoke about the miracle of Eurythmics’ success, recalling how Sweet Dreams became a defining moment:

“Everything was almost like a miracle that it ever happened. Sweet Dreams is so iconic. We wanted to make something that would last, something classic that did not date. I do not know how or why we managed to do it, but it was always like it was meant to be.”

Style, Creativity and Breaking Boundaries

The conversation also touched on Annie’s iconic fashion choices:

“Most of my clothes when I was a kid and growing up into my 20s were second-hand. In the 70s during the punk era, everything was wild and different. We never wanted to repeat ourselves. Sometimes I would present very androgynous looks, and other times very feminine, like in There Must Be an Angel. I was playing with stereotypes and trying to present a different take.”

Annie also reflected on the early struggles before fame:

“We had three albums out with the previous group, The Tourists, and we were left with debt and nothing. The record company was going to drop us. It looked like nothing was ever going to happen. You had to be creative.”

Retrospective Is Out Now

Retrospective is more than a book. It is a celebration of art, resilience and the pursuit of excellence. As Annie said:

“What we did as Eurythmics was of a high standard because we had a high goal. We were not trying to be famous. It was not about that. We were trying to present excellence.”

Annie Lennox: Retrospective is available now. This beautifully curated collection is a must-have for fans and anyone inspired by Annie’s remarkable journey.
