Dave Stewart’s Songwriting Shines on t.A.T.u.’s Dangerous and Moving 20th Anniversary Reissue
The 20th anniversary reissue of t.A.T.u.’s Dangerous and Moving brings renewed attention to one of the album’s standout tracks—“Friend or Foe”, co-written by Dave Stewart and Martin Kierszenbaum, with none other than Sting on bass guitar. Originally released in 2005, the album marked a bold evolution for the Russian duo, blending pop, rock and orchestral elements with international collaborations that elevated their sound.
“Friend or Foe” stands out not only for its sleek production and haunting melody, but for the creative force behind it. Dave Stewart’s songwriting lends the track a sense of urgency and sophistication, while Sting’s bass work adds depth and texture. The song remains one of the most memorable moments on the album, and its inclusion in this deluxe reissue is a reminder of the calibre of artists involved in its creation.
The new edition, available exclusively via Interscope.com, is pressed on opaque “Caution Yellow” vinyl and features 24 tracks, including nine Russian versions and bonus material such as the instrumental version of “Gomenasai” with a string arrangement by Richard Carpenter. This marks the first vinyl pressing of Dangerous and Moving since its original release, remastered by Justin Perkins at Mystery Room Mastering.
For fans of Dave Stewart, this reissue is a chance to revisit a lesser-known but artistically rich collaboration. “Friend or Foe” captures the kind of cross-genre experimentation Stewart has long championed, and its presence on this edition is a testament to the enduring appeal of the album.
