Discover Anton Corbijn’s Unseen Photo of Eurythmics at the LICHT Exhibition in Frankfurt
Eurythmics are featured in a captivating new exhibition that features legendary Dutch photographer and film director, Anton Corbijn. Hosted at the Galerie Anita Beckers in Frankfurt, the exhibition titled "LICHT" opened on Friday, November 1, 2024, and will run until January 18, 2025.
This marks the fifth solo exhibition of Anton Corbijn at the gallery, presenting a stunning selection of his conceptual works from the 1990s. True to his experimental style, these photographs employ a flashlight as the sole light source, alongside the innovative use of colour filters. This unique approach results in blurry contours and dramatic lighting, effectively bringing the featured musicians to life with a pulsating rhythm.
In this extraordinary collection, we are particularly excited about the inclusion of a previously unseen photograph of Eurythmics, captured through Anton’s distinctive vision. This rare and intimate portrayal provides fans with a new perspective on Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart, echoing their iconic electronic beats and synth sounds.
Corbijn's technique is akin to painting with light, resulting in images that pulse with energy and capture the essence of the artists beyond the conventional aesthetics of pop. The exhibition also showcases portraits of other musical legends like Herbert Grönemeyer and Depeche Mode, offering a comprehensive look at the cultural landscape of a generation.
Anton Corbijn shares, "I wanted to reduce everything to the essentials—just the subject and the simplest form of light. The flashlight allowed me to focus on the emotions in the shadows and isolate the person or object from everything else."
For those who appreciate both music and photography, this exhibition is a must-see. It stands as a testament to Corbijn's lasting influence on visual storytelling and the indelible mark he has made within the realms of music and fashion and includes photographs of Depeche Mode, Sinead O'Connor, David Byrne, Peter Murphy and Babyface.
