Annie Lennox celebrates Island Records being awarded with The Record Label Award at Rolling Stone UK Awards 2024

At the second ever Rolling Stone UK Awards held at London’s Roundhouse, Island Records emerged victorious, winning The Record Label Award.

Annie Lennox, along with other iconic artists like Marcus Mumford and Hozier, celebrated this achievement via video. Annie Lennox expressed her admiration for the label, stating, “I can honestly say that Island Records are a joy to work with, and I should know because I work with them and they are fantastic. I’m so proud of you. So happy for you. Congratulations, everybody.”

Nia Archives had the honour of presenting the award to the label, who won the Mercury Prize this year with English Teacher. The label’s UK President Louis Bloom accepted the award and in his acceptance speech hr reflected on their “amazing” roster of “trailblazing” artists who are “the reason we exist as a label.” He emphasised the label’s mission to sign “true visionaries with exceptional talent,” adding, “It’s a vision and concept we take incredibly seriously.”

He also extended gratitude to the artists, saying, “Thank you to the artists who have entrusted us with their careers.”

Chris Blackwell the original founder of Island Records also added his tribute to the continuation of the label he started 65 years ago.
