Annie Lennox honours Sinead O’Connor at the 66th Grammys in Los Angeles with a performance of Nothing Compares 2 U and calls out publicly for a ceasefire in Gaza

Annie Lennox has been praised for her highly emotional tribute to Sinead O’Connor at the 66th Grammy Awards ceremony in Los Angeles. Annie had been pictured a few weeks ago with the lyrics for Nothing Compares 2 U on a music stand in a rehearsal room, but we did not know that she would be performing with Wendy and Lisa. Wendy Melvoin played rhythm guitar in Prince’s band The Family when the song was first recorded.

Between the 3 performers, they delivered a powerful and moving rendition during the In Memoriam segment of the 2024 GRAMMYs honoring the legacy of late musician and activist Sinéad O’Connor. At moments Annie seemed to be in tears herself as she sang but she kept composure to deliver a breathtaking delivery that had the audience stunned into silence.

Not one to shy away from her political and social responsibilities, Annie ended the song by raising a clenched fist and speaking the words, “Artists for ceasefire! Peace in the world!” for which she has been praised across all media channels for being one of the only artists in “Award” season to acknowledge the conflicts going on in the world.

Annie’s tribute included a nod to the tear rolling down Sinead O’Connor’s original video for the song in the form of a glitter make up tear.
