Last night (March 1st), music legends and fans gathered at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. to pay tribute to the incomparable Joni Mitchell. The star-studded event was a celebration of Mitchell’s extraordinary musical achievements, following her recent recognition as the recipient of the prestigious Gershwin Prize for Popular Song.

Among the esteemed artists who graced the stage to honour Mitchell were the talented Graham Nash, James Taylor, Marcus Mumford, Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock, Ledisi, and Angélique Kidjo. However, it was Eurythmics’ very own Annie Lennox who stole the show with her breathtaking rendition of Mitchell’s beloved ballad “Both Sides Now.” Lennox’s powerful performance left the audience mesmerised, capturing the essence of Mitchell’s timeless masterpiece. Annie also took part in an all-star rendition of Big Yellow Taxi

As the evening drew to a close, Mitchell herself took the stage, delivering a heartfelt rendition of George Gershwin’s “Summertime” from Porgy & Bess, followed by her own timeless classic, “The Circle Game.” The crowd was in awe, witnessing the sheer talent and artistry of one of music’s greatest icons.

Mitchell’s outstanding contributions to the world of music have not gone unnoticed. As the first Canadian recipient of the Gershwin Prize, she joins an elite group of honorees that includes Stevie Wonder, Paul McCartney, Carole King, Paul Simon, Smokey Robinson, Tony Bennett, Lionel Richie, Willie Nelson, and Garth Brooks.

Last night’s tribute concert was a testament to Joni Mitchell’s enduring impact on the music industry and the lives of countless fans worldwide.
