Annie Lennox has premiered her new video for Dido’s Lament on YouTube. The track was originally recorded 10 years ago and Mike Stevens rediscovered the unused track and sent it to Annie.

Annie decided it was a timely addition to A Christmas Cornucopia to celebrate its 10th Anniversary.

Annie joined fans live on YouTube in the chatbox and before the video was shown, Annie introduced the film with a message:

?Hi Everyone, Annie here!

?It’s a privilege to be able to share this powerful visual accompaniment to Dido’s Lament, created by Julian House of Intro Productions. I very much hope it resonates with you.

?The traditional carols on ‘A Christmas Cornucopia’ have been sung at the conclusion of every year over decades of time.

?It pains me to say that at this moment in global history, we might well be forced to consider how much time we actually have left to exist on this planet, as we head towards climate catastrophe.

?Henry Purcell’s ‘Dido’s Lament’, was written around 300 years ago as a ‘suicide’ aria where heartbroken Dido is about to take her own life.

?For me, this tragic aria could be given a parallel interpretation as a universal lament for a different subject, the existential sustainability of our fragile planet, which is now in serious jeopardy in the 21st century. ?It almost feels like a taboo to say this, but human civilisation as we know it, might very well be coming to the end of its time.

?There’s so much ubiquitous global destruction, which we all continue to contribute to, yet still appear to be in some form of denial about.
