Dave Stewart is a great fan of cult Barossa winery Mollydooker – a winery famous not only for fantastic Shiraz and Cabernet wines which are among the world’s most acclaimed, but for the innovative and unconventional approach to the making, marketing and enjoyment of wine typified by Mollydooker’s dynamic owners, Sarah and Sparky Marquis.  From the striking labels to the infamous “Mollydooker Shake”  – ie shaking the bottle prior to opening to release the nitrogen and so enhance the fruit flavours of the wine – Sarah and Sparky have created a range of boutique wines with absolutely stunning flavours.

To commemorate the release of his new album ‘The Ringmaster General’ , Dave asked Sarah and Sparky to produce a unique limited edition bottling of their premium 2010 Carnival of Love Shiraz.  The wine is indeed called ‘The Ringmaster General’ and the label features Dave Stewart himself in full Ringmaster regalia.  On the back label Dave writes – “As ‘The Ringmaster General’ I introduce to you the incredible wine you are about to experience. Declarations of the most ‘daring’, ‘amazing’, ‘spectacular’ are commonly used when introducing circus performers. Sarah & Sparky to me are the Flying Trapeze artists of the wine industry and I’m so honoured to collaborate with them and their ‘Mollydooker Circus’ to create ‘The Greatest Wine on Earth.’

This gorgeous 100% Shiraz wine has to be tasted to be believed and received an incredible 95 point rating from the world’s most famous wine critic, Robert Parker.  The wine is  very deep purple-black in colour, and  is intensely scented with blueberry preserves, creme de cassis and warm black cherries with an undercurrent of baking spices, licorice, mocha, vanilla, toast and eucalypt. Very full and densely packed with warm blackberry and spice flavours on the palate, it has a solid structure of medium to firm velvety tannins and very crisp acid, giving way to a very long finish.   You can drink the wine now or keep it for another 10 years in cool conditions.

Only a few dozen of the Ringmaster General have been imported to the UK and you can purchase the wine from fine wine e-tailer www.winedirect.co.uk.  The Mollydooker Ringmaster General is available in a superb giftbox which includes a DVD containing hits from The Blackbird Diaries and select songs from the recently released The Ringmaster General, a 90 min documentary on the making of ‘The Blackbird Diaries’ and ‘The Ringmaster General’ and Dave Stewart’s musical accompaniment to the Mollydooker Guided Tour video.

The giftbox costs £82.95 and delivery is £7.  You can also buy the wine without the giftbox and in this case the cost is £69.50.
