Aberdeen Art Gallery’s major summer exhibition which pays tribute to the creativity, style and passion for life of Aberdeen-born artist Annie Lennox ends this weekend [Saturday 29 September].
This touring exhibition from the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, features costumes and accessories worn by Lennox together with photographs, personal treasures and awards, ephemera from the political campaigns she has championed, music videos and a specially commissioned video of Lennox in conversation.
Since the exhibition opened on Saturday 7 July there has had average of 4,500 visitors per week. The figures are on a par with the hugely successful summer exhibition last year on Wildlife Photographer of the Year. These figures are higher than the normal weekly average which is around 3,000-3,500 visitors.
Deirdre Grant, head of public programmes for Aberdeen Art Gallery & Museums, said: “We are delighted to have worked with the V&A, London to bring The House of Annie Lennox to Aberdeen and give visitors a chance to see a major exhibition they would otherwise have had to travel hundreds of miles to view.
“We were privileged to work directly with Annie Lennox to curate exclusive new content for the exhibition in Aberdeen and to have her perform for us, and record an interview about her musical beginnings in the city.
“We have had a fantastic response to the exhibition and its events both in visitor numbers and feedback. A lively schools programme also saw young people working with a visiting musician to make music and dance inspired by seeing the show.”
