In advance of the release of her new album, ‘A Christmas Cornucopia,’ Lennox has filmed a new clip for her take on the classic song ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.’ The visual is something of an animated, old-world hybrid thing that she shot utilizing the magic of green screens.

“It kind of brings you into almost a mythical kingdom,” Lennox tells Spinner. “My references were to go back to Victorian times, which is a source of the way we celebrate Christmas now, with the cards, the Christmas tree and the presents. But I was also conscious about the Pagan idea, about marking the time of the end of the year. The trees go bare, we have the dark nights and the solstice.”

Indeed, the video features Lennox frolicking around with flute and drum players and a large Jesus-type figure. She reveals that her time spent being filmed was only limited to a couple of days but that post-production took quite awhile.

“When I saw it, it was so much beyond what I expected,” she says. “I informed the company that did it and gave the reference points and told them the reasons behind doing a song like ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen.’ I think it’s quite groundbreaking, personally. It transports you and takes you back in time. The character I am in that, it’s a message of peace and goodwill to all mankind. It’s a strong female message, if you get what I mean.”
